How to Rehydrate Dried Marijuana?

Dry and trimmed cannabis buds stored in a glass jars. Medical cannabis

Do you know that a medical marijuana flower can be rehydrated? If you've ever tried to smoke dried weed, it's an effective trick to try now. The feeling can be unpleasant: the brittle consistency, the weak taste and aroma, and the burning sensation can be felt in the back of your mouth. Thankfully, there are many methods of rehydration that work.

Why Marijuana Rehydration Is Popular?

Marijuana, like most plant life, needs a certain amount of humidity. The cannabinoids and terpenes start to degrade as marijuana dries out. As a result, cannabis loses its distinctive taste and smell, and can no longer provide you with the high or medicinal benefits that you are looking for.

If you've been drying your weed and gathering dust for months, it may not be safe. But if the weed recently dried out because it was kept at a temperature less than ideal or exposed to too much air, you would still be able to save it.

How to Have Marijuana Rehydrated

There are several ways to rehydrate medical marijuana, but all of them have one crucial thing in common: exposing moisture to cannabis. The porous plant absorbs the moisture and returns slowly to the kind of smooth, versatile consistency that is known for good marijuana.

Cannabis Humidors

You'll want to invest in a high-quality humidor if you normally struggle with dry weed. This will not only help to return dry cannabis to its former glory, but for months at a time, it will keep all of your weed at an optimum moisture level.

A traditional humidor is a cedar-lined box fitted with a humidity control hygrometer. As you want to maintain your relative humidity below 65%, make sure to use a humidor that is built for cannabis. Usually, cigar humidors start with 70% relative humidity, so you'll want to avoid them.

To get your cannabis rehydrated:

  • Place it in your humidor and use distillated water to moisturize the humidifier. Some humidors require a damp sponge or cloth to be put inside the case, but others are more elaborate.

  • When needed, calibrate your hygrometer.

  • For a minimum of 2 to 3 hours, seal the cannabis inside.

  • When your cannabis is ready to use, you'll understand; the leaves and buds should be flexible and smooth to the touch.

  • Each humidor has its own setup and use instructions, so read the instructions carefully before using them.

Distilled Water and Container

You can also use distilled water to rehydrate your weed, even though you don't have a humidor. This technique acts like a makeshift humidor.

  • Place your weed, such as a jar or Tupperware container, in a container with a lid. The jar should be wide enough to accommodate the original packaging (opened, not sealed) of your cannabis and a damp paper towel.

  • Soak the purified water with your paper towel. You want it to be about 75% humid, not leaking. A possible mould danger is posed by excess moisture.

  • Place in the jar your weed and your paper towel and seal the container for at least 2 to 3 hours.

  • Make sure that only purified water is used. As distilled water is chemically pure and won't contaminate your weed, this is essential.

Hot Water Pot

Are you in a rush? This approach should do the trick if you need to rehydrate your weed in minutes rather than hours. Just remember that, since this is one of the simplest ways to over-hydrate, you have to be extremely cautious. Just try this strategy on a strict as-needed basis, and watch your weed closely.

  • Fill a big pot and bring it to a boil with water.

  • Remove and put the boiling water from the stove on a safe surface.

  • Place over the top of the pot a washcloth or other piece of fabric and secure it around the bottom, forming a tight seal. Be careful not to get yourself burnt.

  • Place your cannabis on top of the cloth and allow it to be rehydrated by the rising water vapor.

  • Switch the nugs to ensure full coverage every few minutes.

  • After 30 to 45 minutes, remove the weed and enjoy it.
